Run to Conquer Cancer | Nanaimo
I was recently given the lovely opportunity of capturing The Nanaimo Run To Conquer Cancer. A gathering of people honouring and celebrating the lives of loved ones on top the ones who are fighting cancer. It was a beautiful display of what it means to be human.
Every shot has a rich and vibrant story, some showing up like soldiers on a medieval battlefield. I think it would be hard these days, to not find anyone who hasn't had an experience with Cancer in some way or another. It is a terrifying diagnosis no matter what. I've lost an uncle to cancer and my Mom has recently beat Cancer twice in the last two years. I can't tell you how heartbreaking, tragic and unfair it feels in either scenario and I couldn't imagine what they have to endure.
No matter how you slice it, with the abundance of terrible news we hear daily, arriving at Maffeo Sutton Park park was a breath of fresh air that I didn't know I needed. People dressed up, faces painted, kids running all over the place, bumping tunes filling the air as everyone prepped and warmed up for the run! The names and pictures of loved ones lost were worn like a badge of courage, honour and love. A memorable afternoon that I am grateful to have witnessed. Sending love out to the world, life is to short to waste our time on fighting with one another, so handout some hugs today I dare you!!
This 5k run is the first of its kind along the Waterfront of Nanaimo, all proceeds go to the Vancouver Island Faction of the BC Cancer Foundation. Run To Conquer Cancer
